Blu-ray
Blu-ray is a high definition optical disc that offers 5 times the amount of definition as a standard DVD and enhanced audio quality. The name derives from the blue-violet laser used to read the disc. A Blu-ray player, which attaches to a digital TV is needed to read the disc. The first Blu-ray discs and players were marketed in 2006. Since then the number of different players has grown and the prices have come down. In considering the purchase of a Blu-ray player it is advisable to look online at Blu-ray player reviews, as the capabilities and prices vary.

Elite Syncopations (1974)
Music: Scott Joplin and others
The Judas Tree (1992)
Music: Brian Elias
Concerto (1966)
Music: Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2
Featuring Artists of the Royal Ballet with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House
Kenneth MacMillan’s versatility is celebrated here in three very different ballets: the humorous romp Elite Syncopations, set to the easy-going rhythms of ragtime, is in stark contrast to The Judas Tree, that depicts the horrific fate of a woman at the hands of 13 men. Concerto, danced to the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2, is an abstract work of beauty, exuberance, and reflection.

The Royal Ballet
Created by Frederick Ashton for a film in 1971, Tales of Beatrix Potter brings alive, with rich characterization and invention, the famous images and stories of Beatrix Potter. Swept up in the ballet’s childlike exuberance, the entire cast delivers outstanding portrayals of such colorful figures as Jemima Puddle-Duck, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and the irrepressible Peter Rabbit.

Musical Director Vello Pähn
Choreographer
Rudolf Nureyev
In this new, brilliant production, Agnès Letestu, a feminine and warm Odette, and José Martinez, a convincing, pale, vulnerable prince Siegfried, are the stars. Rudolf Nureyev’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s lyrical ballet, far from being a clichéd stereotype, is an exposé of astonishingly powerful and recognisable human emotions.
