The internationally celebrated 16th and 17th century composer Claudio Monteverdi wrote his controversial final opera, L'Incoronazione di Poppea, as a caustic sociopolitical satire in which the forces of evil ultimately trounce those of goodness. This release features a film of Pierre Audi's 1994 production of that opera, shot live at the Het Muziektheater Amsterdam. Cynthia Haymon interprets the titular role of Poppea, Brigitte Balleys plays Nerone, and Ning Liang portrays Ottavia. 219 minutes, 2 DVD set
