Bass decided to offer the young man an opportunity to study ballet at the School of American Ballet in New York, where he was accepted after private coaching by Olga 
Kostrizky, head of SAB’s boys program. What unfolds is a tentative negotiation between Sy and American ballet and culture. The film follows Sy’s development from the serene countryside of Southeast Asia to the high-power rehearsal studios of New York, and finally to the stage of the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle.
